Surigao City Pilot School was filled with joyous devotion on February 21, 2025, as the revered image of the Santo Niño de Cebu graced its grounds. This special visit, part of the “Hubileo sa mga Kabataan kauban si Señor Santo Niño”, marked a significant event in the school’s history and aligned with the Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year, “Pilgrims of Hope.”

Virgen Dela Paz Y Buen Viaje Parish, designated as one of the pilgrim churches for this year’s Hubileo, was honored to receive a special grace from the Basilica del Santo Niño, including a replica of the original image of Santo Niño. In line with this spiritual journey, the image was brought to SCPS, where it was welcomed with great devotion and festivity.

The school community prepared a grand reception, with the Drum and Lyre Corps leading the procession at the entrance gate. Pilotians enthusiastically waved red and yellow flaglets, symbolizing their faith and reverence for the Holy Child. The atmosphere was filled with joy and solemnity as pilotian-learners, parents, teachers, and school administrators gathered in prayer and reflection.

A eucharistic celebration followed, presided over by Rev. Fr. Bernard R. Corpuz, MSC. The Holy Mass provided an opportunity for the faithful to deepen their devotion and offer prayers for guidance, strength, and blessings. The veneration of the sacred image continued throughout the afternoon, as attendees expressed their petitions and thanksgiving until 4:00 PM. The school became a sanctuary of devotion, with prayers echoing through its covered court until the conclusion of the event.

At the culmination of the visit, the image of Santo Niño was reverently transported back to Bilang-Bilang Church at 4:00 PM, marking the end of a spiritually enriching encounter for the SCPS community. This momentous event not only strengthened the faith of the young but also highlighted the importance of hope, unity, and devotion in celebrating the Jubilee Year.

The 2025 Jubilee is centered on the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” As His Holiness Pope Francis beautifully expressed it: "We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart, and far-sighted vision." This celebration served as a reminder to all to embrace faith and hope as guiding lights in their spiritual journey.
